Euro standards bodies give backing to to OEM proposal.
The main handset manufacturers reached agreement on a technical solution in June 2009 for a single charger for all phones using Micro-USB connector.
The agreement was signed by Apple, Emblaze Mobile, Huawei, LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, Research In Motion, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, TCT Mobile (Alcatel), Texas Instruments and Atmel.
Now, the CEN-CENELEC and ETSI have examined the safety and emissions risks and given their backing.
The European Commission expects the first common chargers and mobile phones compatible with the new standards to reach the European market in the first months of 2011.
