Mobile-based micro-blogging service sees usage surge by 1,000 per cent.
The latest figures from HitWise have highlighted phenomenal UK growth for the Twitter blogging service.January figures show UK traffic up 1,000 per cent year-on-year, surpassing more established social networking sites such as Digg.
Twitter bills itself as a service for friends, family and co–workers to communicate ('tweet') and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?
Each message/post must be 140 characters or less, with mobile phones by far the popular way to tweet.
HitWise analyst Robin Goad said: "Twitter was one of the fastest growing websites in the UK last year, and it shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, the service is even more popular than our numbers imply, as we are only measuring traffic to the main Twitter website."
