UK launch for mobile games and app store Funzoo

Funzoo, a new web-based 'one stop shop for smartphone games and apps', has gone live.

The store already offers more than 1,000 products from major publishers including EA, Glu, THQ, Real, Fox and many more.

Game titles include Doodle Jump, Tetris and Call Of Duty, but the site also offers apps like Personal Money Manager and ForcaWeather.

Products are available for all major platforms including Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Java.

Funzoo is a joint project by Zamano and Selatra, and has been conceived by its founders as more than just a retail store.

While all products are available as one-off downloads at between £1 and £4.99 (there is no subscription option), Funzoo aims to create a genuine sense of community around its service.

This is why Funzoo has its own Facebook and Twitter pages, giving users the chance to share, review and rate their favourite products.

And there are also plans to create a Funzoo blog as another channel for users to have their say. Pre-launch, the site already had over 600 Facebook 'likes'.

Gareth O' Neill, online channel manager for Funzoo, believes the time has come for this kind of socially-oriented store. He said: "Smartphones and social media have changed everything.

"The smartphone has transformed the quality of mobile games and made it easier to distribute them too. Meanwhile social media is putting power into the hands of users.

"We believe users deserve a better retail experience. And we know they'll find it at Funzoo."

Users of Funzoo pay for their products using PayForIt, but there are plans to introduce a PayPal option later this year.
