GfK stats report boom in post-pay sales on Google-based handsets.
Android phones rose in terms of handsets sold from three per cent of the contract market in week 12 to reach 12.3 per cent in week 15.
In terms of the total market, Android’s share grew from 1.6 per cent to 6.7 per cent during this period.
Phones with advanced OSs account for 37.6 per cent of the total mobile handset market, although this share jumps to 63.9 per cent in the contract only sector.
Almost one in every five smartphones purchased in the UK is an Android.
