Dow Jones says UIQ Technologies is mulling whether to make 200 of its 375 employees redundant following Nokia's deal to acquire Symbian and make it available as a free open source OS.UIQ is a Symbian-based user interface software developed by Sweden-based UIQ, which is owned by Sony Ericsson and Motorola.
Nokia's creation of the Symbian Foundation means UIQ will cease to exist as a stand alone product.
UIQ spokeswoman Carina Dietmann said talks were currently underway with unions regarding the future of the company's technology and possible lay-offs.
