Ubisoft launches Assassin's Creed 2 promo iPhone app

Not a game, but a marketing experience.

One of the surprises at Apple's recent product launch was the news that console firm Ubisoft is releasing the Assassin's Creed 2 game for iPhone, rather than its former licensing partner Gameloft.

However, Ubisoft has also made a free iPhone app to promote the console versions of the game. Assassin's Creed 2 Experience is now live on Apple's App Store.

It offers screenshots, news and trailers, and a link to Ubisoft's separate Twitter game, which is getting people to 'assassinate' their friends (in 140 characters or less, naturally).

There is a game element too, with slide puzzles connected to global leaderboards.

Promotional iPhone apps are becoming common in the music industry, but haven't been quite so evident from console game publishers. If Ubisoft's proves popular, we may see more of these apps in the coming months.
