And one in five are on social networks.

Market researcher Forrester has conducted the report to observe global mobile consumer habits covering Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.

The report says that the UK is driving the European mobile market forward as 66 per cent of UK adults have downloaded an app in the last three months compared to 61 per cent of Europeans.

Britons are also hungry for social media with 22 per cent accessing social networks via mobile, double that of Europe's 11 per cent.

Further results shows that 31 per cent of the UK use their mobile internet at least once a month compared to the European average of 19 per cent.

The report also highlights Asia Pacific's development as an emerging market for smartphones. It's most common for mobile users to possess more than two mobile phones in Metro China with 36 per cent, Spain with 36 per cent, Hong Kong with 34 per cent and the US with 34 per cent.

Asia Pacific has the highest uptake of mobile internet use too as half the population of Japan and China dominate countries like the US, Australia, Sweden and the UK.

The continent also leads mobile social usage, while the US is the leader for app downloads. The most popular app category in the US is weather, while games and social networks lead in Europe, leaving Asia to prefer music and gaming.
