TwitterPeek: a handset that JUST does Twitter

No calls, no texts, just tweets.

The explosive growth of Twitter has been partly fuelled by mobile use of the micro-blogging service, whether via SMS, mobile web or the hundreds of mobile Twitter apps.

Pretty much every mobile handset in the world is capable of interacting with Twitter in some way, in other words. Against that backdrop, the prospects for a handheld device that exists solely for Twitter seem rather gloomy.

It lets users tweet and browse their feeds as much as they like over the air, without any monthly data contract - it's presumably bundled into the price.

Tweets arrive in a BlackBerry-style push format, and the device has a claimed battery life of four days.

It's an interesting gadget, but we can't help wondering who would buy it. Push tweets will become an increasingly common feature on smartphone Twitter apps in the coming months, and phones can offer other features - like the ability to tweet pics and videos.
