Critical mass will help it target advertisers
Twitter is targeting a billion users as it seeks to create a case for advertisers to use its network for their campaigns.
Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams revealed the target at a conference in San Francisco, adding that their service is signing up nearly two million users a week.
Considering Twitter currently has 165 million users, it's going to take quite a while to reach the magic billion.
The world's biggest social network, Facebook, passed the 500 million user mark back in June this year.
