Twitter unveiling its advertising strategy today

'Promoted tweets' coming to a mobile near you soon.

As you'll know if you read our article about Twitter's media partnerships yesterday, the company is set to announce its long-awaited advertising strategy today. However, details have leaked early.

AdAge reports that the ads will take the form of 'promoted tweets' for brands, with a revenue model that may involve advertisers paying more if they're retweeted by more users.

The ads will apparently appear first in search results on the Twitter website, but will eventually make their way into users' feeds, including in Twitter mobile apps.

AdAge claims Starbucks, Bravo and Virgin America are on board for launch, and it has confirmation from Twitter that its story is correct.

"We wanted to do something that just enhances the conversation that companies are already having with their customers on Twitter," says COO Dick Costolo, who will formally announce the new initiative at the magazine's digital conference in New York today.
