Twitter revamps its mobile website

Looking beyond apps.

There are hundreds of downloadable apps for accessing Twitter, but the company hasn't forgotten that it also has a healthy base of people using its mobile website.

It's just been revamped, as Twitter mobile team user experience lead Leland Rechis explains in a blog post.

"Lots of people access Twitter on their phones via our good ol’ mobile website, and trusty ‘m’ has been delivering tweets faithfully. However, ‘m’ doesn’t fully feel like Twitter, and could probably do a bit more things for you."

The new site has been rebuilt from the ground up using various Twitter APIs, and according to Rechis works best on Webkit-based mobile browsers - i.e. Android, iPhone, Nokia S60 and Palm webOS.

For now, it's accessed manually by pointing a browser to mobile.twitter.com (as opposed to the existing m.twitter.com site) - but Rechis says Twitter will begin switching users of the latter over in the coming weeks.
