Twitter geolocation yet to take off

Twitter geolocation yet to take off

But it's early days still...

Twitter's launch of a geolocation API last November was hailed as a big deal, allowing users to automatically have their location appended to their tweets.

However, the feature appears to have made a slow start, judging by figures released by analytics firm Sysomos.

It tracked more than 10 million tweets on Monday and Tuesday this week, but found that only 0.23% of them had been tagged with location data.

ReadWriteWeb points out that many Twitter clients still don't support the geolocation API, so this low percentage may be unsurprising.

Even so, any user can turn on geolocation in their settings on the Twitter website. Perhaps the company needs to make more of an effort to explain the feature to users.
