Twitter: '2010 is the revenue year'

Co-founder promises 'amazing' ads, but how will mobile fit in?

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone says the company is focused on generating significant revenues in 2010, with advertising high in the mix.

"2010 is really going to be the revenue year," he says. "I don't know if we're going to be profitable, but we have plenty of time."

Stone was speaking at an event at Oxford University, where he also said Twitter would rather IPO than sell the company. But it's the plans for advertising that are most intriguing, although the company is keeping them close to its chest.

"Everyone's going to love it. It's going to be amazing," said Stone.

One area he didn't talk about is mobile and how that fits into Twitter's revenue-generation plans. The company is already striking deals with mobile operators to deliver tweets to customers as text messages.

However, it will be interesting to see if the company's ad plans also filter into mobile.
