Tweet Defense blends Twitter with Tower Defence

The name kinda makes that clear...

Developer Promethium Marketing Group has released a new iPhone game called Tweet Defense, which mashes up the 'tower defense' genre with data from Twitter.

"We wondered what it would be like to take your social network and all your activities and turn it into a game," says the App Store blurb.

"This isn't just a twitter client that lets you tweet your score. This is a full on tower defense game that uses your friend list and your tweeting activity to impact how powerful your towers are."

Players get in-game bonuses based on their follower and tweet counts, while also pulling in stats from Twitter celebrities to give them a boost.

A gimmick? Well, yes. But it's a sign of how iPhone games developers are experimenting with pulling data from Web 2.0 services into their games.
