Transport for London ramps up mobile services

Journey planners, travel updates, retail info and more bundled into Corethree's 'super app'.

UK firm Corethree has an interesting angle on the mobile commerce space. Rather than work with partners to offer rich mobile services within its partners' own discrete apps, it puts them in its own super app, which supports all kinds of sophisticated features.

Thus, the new Transport for London offering includes a journey planner, London bus timetables, real-time tube updates, live Barclays Cycle Hire availability and locations, Oyster ticket outlets and live transportation information services.

The 'super-app' was launched last year on iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7. Its other partners include Cancer Research UK, which accepts donations using carrier billing or card payments via the  mobile-wallet solution

Corethree CEO Ashley Murdoch said, "We are delighted to offer Londoners the ability to plan their journey in and around London on the bus, train, tube, DLR, and tram, whilst on the move. In addition, we can help provide London become a greener city by offering travel information for cycling and walking.

"This is an immensely useful tool for both residents and visitors already, and we are planning to regularly add further services and offerings, all for free."
