Thumbplay launches MP3 music store Blackberry app

Beats rival digital music retailer 7digital to RIM's App World.

US mobile content firm Thumbplay has launched an MP3 music store for BlackBerry, via an app being distributed for free on RIM's BlackBerry App World store.

The application lets BlackBerry users browse, preview and download music from Thumbplay's catalogue of music.

The DRM-free MP3 files can be downloaded over Wi-Fi or over the air. Prices start at $0.69 - the app appears to be available in North America only for now.

The news means Thumbplay's store has made it to App World before a rival offering from UK music retailer 7digital, which was announced in July, but won't launch until September.

However, 7digital said then that its store would be available in the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain as well as North America.
