Thumbplay claims its music service is eating into piracy

Has the survey stats to prove it.

US mobile firm Thumbplay has published results from a survey of 500 users of its Thumbplay Music service.

They include the bold claim that 70% of respondents say they have stopped using P2P services since signing up to Thumbplay Music - indicating that it is successfully eating into piracy.

Meanwhile, 70% of respondents are male, with the 25-34 age group the largest group, with 35-44 year-olds close behind.

The survey also found that 75% of respondents said Thumbplay Music was the first streaming music service that they had paid for, although 80% had previously tried ad-supported service Pandora.

Meanwhile, 39% of Thumbplay Music usage comes from iPhone, 36% from BlackBerry and 25% from Android.
