The Sun to charge £4.99 per month for newspaper app

Will cost 69p for initial 30-day subscription.

Whether it's via app or mobile sites, digital newspapers are rising in adoption as The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, The Financial Times, The Mirror and more have embraced the mobile space.

News International has now launched The Sun app for Android smartphones, which will be chargeable at a monthly rate of £4.99 after an initial 69p 30-day introduction.

Users will be able to view all articles and galleries, stream videos and share media via Facebook and Twitter.

As for iOS, an iPad app has been available since summer of 2010 but the iPhone version is expected to launch next month.

Gary Thompson, digital associate editor, The Sun, said: "Users will have instant access to stories from the newspaper they know and love, and with bonus features such as the Live Match Centre and breaking news, the smart thing to do is to download this app now."
