News Corporation's subscription app pegged for January 19 launch.
News Corporation has been showing off its The Daily iPad news app to journalists under embargo, in advance of an anticipated launch next week.
Forbes claims that the subscription-based app will launch on Wednesday 19 January, although News Corporation has not confirmed the go-live date.
It also cites a tweet by an Advertising Age writer about Rupert Murdoch showing the app to journalists during a dinner at the CES show last week.
Separately, Yahoo news is suggesting that The Daily will be shown off at an event at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, with both Murdoch and Apple CEO Steve Jobs in attendance.
If correct, that may imply a bigger announcement from Apple, possibly around new subscription-based billing options for news and magazine publishers on the App Store.
Sales of magazine apps on the store have flattered to deceive, but The Daily is a different proposition: an entirely new made-for-tablet service, rather than a digital version of an existing print publication.

Its launch will be closely scrutinised by rival news organisations considering their own tablet strategies.
