The $1bn Japanese mobile ad market

ABI Research says that by 2012, mobile advertising and marketing will be worth $1.2 bn in Japan.

The company cites the well-established range of 3G and HSDPA-based handsets available in Japan, and the country’s advanced consumer base, for the robust projection. It adds that similar market conditions will make the South Korean market worth $684m by the same date.

A senior analyst at ABI Research said: "Japan and South Korea have almost the same market structures, value chains and service applications. This is because mobile operators in both countries established their own mobile ad agencies to support operators’ business models for mobile ads. The relationships between operators and the affiliated mobile ads firms are close, in order to produce desirable business results."
