Premium content providers have until September 1st to register for PhonepayPlus's Code of Practice and Registration Scheme.
Registration is mandatory and PPP says failure to register could incur sanctions that include fines. It says over 1,000 providers are already registered.
PPP drafted a new code of practice earlier this year to address changes in the premium mobile content market as it moves away from ringtones and text votes to new and more complex services (including micropayments etc).
In April it announced that all UK firms in the space would need to register for the scheme in order to make policing it more effective.
It says a provider cannot do business with any other partner who is not registered, and confirms that some providers have made it clear that they will no longer contract with clients after September 1st if they are not registered.
Paul Whiteing, PhonepayPlus’ CEO said: “From the outset, we knew that an effective Registration Scheme would need to capture the whole value-chain.
