Telmap releases Q2 metrics report

Finding its service is more popular with Android devices than iPhones.

Mobile location service Telmap has published the third edition of its Telmap Metrics Report, outlining the latest usage and activity on its service, which has customers including Vodafone and O2.

Q2 is the first quarter where Telmap has seen the number of new activations on Android devices surpass the number of new activations on the iPhone, according to the report.

Telmap also claims to have reached over 26 mobile operators globally, serving more than six million users.

The company has been tracking searches made by its users in major European countries, too. 18% of searches are food-related, 30% focus on transport, 15% on food shopping, and 12% related to shopping and fun.

Telmap also claims 50% of the searches specify a place or brand name, while the other 50% focus on a category, for example hotel, food or cinema.

Android may be tops for new activations, but in terms of smartphone usage, iPhone is still in the lead, with Android growing, BlackBerry maintaining its position, and Nokia in decline.
