Telmap launches location-based restaurant coupons in Israel

Helping users find discounts on their meals.

Mobile navigation firm Telmap has a new content partner in its native Israel: restaurant guide REST. The partnership will see Telmap's users able to find local restaurants, and redeem digital coupons to get discounts on eating there.

The new feature will make its debut on Telmap's service for Israeli operator Pelephone Communications, although clearly there is scope to roll it out to other operators and countries, if Telmap can strike similar deals with local providers.

"Working with local content providers who are leaders in their field, such as REST, enables us to combine their brand power, specialty and recognition together with our location capabilities," says Telmap's CMO Motti Kushnir in a statement.

"We can present coupons and offers to users, taking into consideration their real-time location, as well as their context at that exact moment, and offer them deals that are relevant specifically to them. This combined offering is of course highly beneficial and relevant to end-users."

Much of the buzz around mobile coupons has focused on social location services like Foursquare, where people can be presented with deals based on their check-ins. However, GPS navigation services also have an opportunity to tap into deals and discounts. Telmap is unlikely to be the last example.
