But says whether users will pay for apps is still in question.

DMGT subsidiary Teletext Mobile has launched its first Android apps, and hailed the growth of Google's smartphone OS.

"Android is taking off like nobody's business," says its app strategist Saalim Chowdhury. "You can get an Android phone for £99 now - so the space is going to dramatically increase."

Teletext Mobile's first Android apps are two 99p 'talking phrasebooks' for holidaymakers, following their success on iPhone.

The division has also had success on the App Store with its Bamboozle quiz game and MirrorMe+ imaging application.

However, Chowdhury warns that it's still unclear whether Android will be a good fit for paid apps.

"Is Android just going to appeal to the user who doesn't want to spend money on apps, or will the new people coming in start to spend?"
