Telefonica's data revenue up 40 per cent

Spanish giant rakes in 420m euros from non-SMS data services in 2Q08.

That figure is up 39.8 per cent year-on-year and includes revenue from across its European opcos.

Telefonica Europe chief exec Matthew Key also said Apple's iPhone had a positive effect on the company's net customer additions and a reduction in churn.

In the UK, Telefonica O2's data ARPU was 12.1 per cent higher year-on-year in, driven by growth in text message volumes (up 41.4 per cent year-on-year), as well as increasing usage of the mobile Internet.

Growth of non-SMS revenues came in at 46.1 per cent year-on-year. Data ARPU for the first half was 10.5 euros, representing year-on-year growth of 10.8 per cent.
