Telefonica launches free iPhone navigation app in Spain

Well, free to customers on certain tariffs anyway.

Spanish operator Telefonica Espana has launched Ruta Movistar, an iPhone app offering GPS navigation for drivers and walkers.

The app also includes points of interest and speed camera alerts, and covers Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Gibraltar, as well as the Balearic and Canary Islands.

Telefonica has launched the app through Apple's App Store, with a one-month free trial for anyone who downloads it.

The operator is using a subscription model thereafter, charging €2.99 a month for customers on its iPhone flat-rate data tariff, charged on their monthly bills.

However, those on its €25 or €39 tariffs won't have to pay the subscription - it's bundled into their tariff.
