Teleca acquires SurfKitchen

Teleca acquires SurfKitchen

Sweden's telco software firm snaps up veteran user experience specialist.

Teleca says it plans to integrate SurfKitchen’s operator-centric interfaces with its own deep connections to the mobile device sector.

It's a huge organisation, which supplies diverse software for all corners of the telco space.

But like so many others, it has moved into the content market in recent years, even creating a unit to deliver mobile apps in 2009.

The firm's swoop for SurfKitchen was driven by a desire to extend its services into user interfaces, widgets and discovery – particularly in the operator space.

SurfKitchen is one of the most enduring firms in this space, having pioneered the 'on-device portal' concept before that was effectively wiped out by apps.

However, its adapted to the changes by developing widget frameworks, subscriber management services and so on.

It will remain an independent business unit within the Teleca organisation, focusing on the operator segment, while hooking into Teleca’s global services for its customer deployment.

“This acquisition brings together two companies with very complementary skill sets”, said Michel Quazza, CEO of SurfKitchen.

“We get access to Teleca’s strong presence in the connected devices industry and its extensive partner network, while Teleca can offer its deep knowledge of embedded systems to our operator customers.

"The result is true end-to-end services that benefit the whole industry and will provide unique differentiation”.
