Developer Tapulous scores App Store hit according to new metrics from comScore.

Market tracker comScore says the most downloaded app from the Apple App Store in North America is Tapulous’ Tap Tap Revenge.

In total the game, which incidentally is free to download and monetised by paid-for DLC, had been installed by 34 per cent of App Store users by February.

Moreover, games account for 12 of the App Store’s top 25 downloads according to comScore.

Amongst the popular non-game apps were Stylem Media’s Backgrounds, the iPhone Facebook App, MySpace mobile, AOL’s AIM and music tagger Shazam.

Brian Jurutka, vice president at  comScore, said: "Tap Tap's success demonstrates that there is ample opportunity in the app space for any publisher to obtain significant distribution with a product that engages users.

"Since the number of app users is growing nearly ten percent each month, that opportunity will only continue to grow for both existing and emerging app developers."
