T-Mobile USA launches carrier billing for Android Market

Google Checkout checks out.

T-Mobile USA has confirmed its rollout of carrier billing for the Android Market store, allowing its Android customers to pay for apps and games on their phone bills.

The rollout actually began last week, and applied to customers with monthly contracts and devices running the Android 1.6 operating system.

"To ensure that the update is received successfully by all users T-Mobile and Google will stagger the update," says a forum post from the operator.

"You should expect to have the Market update and be able to make a T-Mobile account purchase by early January 2010 or earlier."

Devices including the T-Mobile G1 and myTouch 3G will be supported, although handsets running earlier versions of the Android OS, like the Motorola Cliq and Samsung Behold II, will not.
