T-Mobile launches eCard service

UK operator to embed Sharpcards' EMMA app onto selected devices.

T-Mobile UK has agreed to embed Sharpcards' Enhanced Mobile Messaging Application (EMMA) into the messaging menu of some of its devices.

Once a template is selected, the eCard is sent as an MMS, with the customer charged their normal MMS rate of 20p plus a one off fee of 75p for the eCard.

The card is then stored on the sender's phone so it can be used again, without the need to pay the 75p.

T-Mobile hasn't said which handsets will carry the eCard service, which works across both Java and Symbian platforms.

Deborah Porton, head of portal & application products at T-Mobile, said: "We know from experience that our customers like sending animated cards, and we are excited to be working with Sharpcards to offer our customers a fully integrated experience that brings mobile content straight to their messaging menu and is simple and fun to use."
