CEO says less regulation is needed if industry is to successfully compete with the likes of Apple and Google.
Reuters reports on comments made by T-Mobile CEO Hamid Akhavan at the International Conference on Communication earlier today, at which he warned that poor regulation by the EU would damage the ability of mobile operators to innovate profitably.
The last six months has seen the EU move to reassert its power over the mobile telecoms industry, most significantly in the areas of price capping and roaming changes for data and voice.
Citing the emergence of Apple and Google as new entrants into the mobile space, Akhavan said: "We need freedom to move and to act before it is too late and (before we) have damaged this industry... it's already obvious that today's broadband is already tomorrow's narrowband... we need an infrastructure which can handle exploding demand."
