Android way down the list.

The most effective smartphone OS for mobile advertising? Symbian. No, really. At least according to mobile advertising firm Smaato, which has just published metrics saying so.

If the average Click Through Rate (CTR) is 100, Symbian scores 161 according to Smaato's data.

That compares to 119 for iPhone and iPod touch, 112 for Windows Mobile, 84 for feature phones and just 65 for Android. Palm and BlackBerry (28 and 26 respectively) bring up the rear.

Meanwhile, Smaato has also tracked the relative performances of mobile ad networks in the US, claiming that Quattro Wireless and Millennial Media are the best two when it comes to fill rates for mobile publishers in Smaato's network - both scoring 83%.

Smaato says its own customers, who it connects with these and various other ad networks, are getting 94% fill rates. The company has also just released its latest white paper on the global mobile advertising market.
