Symbian has purchased Chinese smartphone app developer Beijing Genesis Interactive Technology.
The deal should strengthen Symbian’s product development resource – especially in the fast growing Chinese market where, incidentally, Symbian opened a Beijing-based R&D centre in August. The engineers and management team of Beijing Genesis will now be absorbed into this subsidiary and its CEO Dennis Kung has been appointed general manager for Symbian China. "The acquisition will play a key role in Symbian's global R&D strategy for our world-leading customers. China is one of the fastest growing markets for smartphones in the world and we will leverage our new Chinese resources to increase Symbian OS global product development," said Nigel Clifford, CEO of Symbian.
