Q2 sees 18.7 million Symbian OS smartphone shipments.
The figure represents growth of 52 per cent from 2Q06 with total 1H07 shipments coming in at 34.6 million units - more than 2005's full-year total.There have now been 145 million units of Symbian-powered phones shipped cumulatively.
The company says its accounted for 72 per cent of the smartphone OS market during Q2 2007.
In terms of new handsets, 33 models starting shipping from the various Symbian licensees. Multimedia models were represented by the Nokia N95, Motorola Z8 and the Nokia 6110 Navigator.
Symbian has also established a global R&D center in Beijing (joining others located in the UK and India. The new facility will play a key role in the company’s continuing development of its OS.
