Symbian improves graphics and connectivity

Symbian has unveiled two improvements to its OS, ScreenPlay and FreeWay.

The new technologies offer enhancements in the areas of graphics and connectivity. ScreenPlay is the new graphics architecture in Symbian OS, giving users ‘big screen’ effects while ensuring long battery life. It is designed to enhance rich video content, advanced games and animations by using transparency, overlays and other effects.

ScreenPlay works purely in software on mid-range devices and takes advantage of hardware acceleration when present on high-end devices.

FreeWay is the new IP networking architecture in Symbian OS, providing broadband connection speeds suitable for Super3G/LTE, WiMax and beyond. It also guarantees smooth switching between connection types and networks so that they can remain mobile at all times.
