Mobile OS guardian has appointed Nokia's Series 60 boss as its executive director.
The Symbian Foundation has installed Lee WIlliams as its executive director, though he will retain his Nokia post as head of S60 development until the end of this year.Williams will be charged with taking the various parts of the Symbian mobile OS and guiding them into the open source pastures. No doubt Nokia, owner of the Symbian OS, will be happy with a 'friend' at the helm.
He was elected to the post by the Symbian Foundation's ten initial board members (AT&T, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson, ST-NXP Wireless, Texas Instruments and Vodafone).
Williams said: "I feel honored to have been invited to serve in this role. This is a great opportunity to directly help deliver on the promise of the foundation, working with the stakeholders and prospective members who are so committed to make this initiative a success."
