Symantec completes acquisition of Nukona

Aims to help enterprises handle the 'Bring Your Own Device' trend.

All over industry, workers are using their own phones and tablets to perform business tasks. They're downloading apps and running products such as IM clients rather than using those mandated by their employers.

Now, an increasing number of enterprises have made the decision to go with, rather than resist, this trend.

But such a strategy can be tricky as it requires them to synchronise and make secure a wide range of products across all platforms.

This drift is behind enterprise software specialist Symantec's acquisition of Nukona.

Nukona helps enterprises distribute and secure apps without requiring them to manage the complete device.  Symantec reckons it can use Nukona's tech to help separate corporate and personal data without limiting the end-user experience or app adoption

The move complements Symantec’s earlier acquisition of Odyssey Software, which specialises in mobile device management.

“More and more organisations are mobilising business applications and data, and we want to offer them a secure and efficient path to business critical mobilisation,” said CJ Desai, senior vice president, Endpoint and Mobility Group, Symantec.

“By providing essential corporate controls like encryption and data loss prevention on a per-application basis, we can provide targeted information security and confidently increase mobile application adoption in the enterprise, helping our customers further address the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ movement.”
