Survey says: Chinese love mobile TV

Research from Telegent shows 54 per cent of people with enabled handsets watch five times a week.

Telegent Systems says half of Chinese consumers using handsets equipped with its analogue broadcast TV receivers are tuning in five times a week, with 74 per cent watching for 30 minutes or more per session.

The company says it interviewed more than 400 consumers who purchased Telegent-enabled handsets, half in February 2008 and the remainder between July and September of 2007.

The handsets are able to pick up regular free-to-air analogue terrestrial TV signals, with 88 per cent of users saying that picture quality was acceptable and 60 per cent stating that they proactively recommend the handsets to friends and family.

Almost half of those surveyed watched TV on their handset while traveling, with 43 per cent watching at home and 17 per cent while at the office.

Mobile TV was found to be most popular between 7-8pm, followed by a morning commute peak of 7-9am.
