SurfKitchen UI boosts Telstra data revs

Aussie operator sees revenues rise by 11 per cent on 'TelstraOne Experience' handsets.

These devices were launched in May 2009 with a UI that leverages the SurfKit Mobile Internet Platform. This gives quicker and more intuitive access to services via a ticker on the bottom of the screen.

Results showed that customers using TelstraOne Experience were 60 per cent more likely to use their phone on a weekly basis to access the mobile web than regular 3G mobile customers. Mobile data use was almost seven per cent higher.

Based on the success of the initial rollout, Telstra is launching the TelstraOne Experience on the Sony Ericsson Naite and Sony Ericsson T707, giving pre-paid customers the opportunity to experience TelstraOne for the first time.

“Our research indicates consumers are much more likely to head online when they can easily set-up and personalise links to their favorite sites,” said Ross Fielding, executive director of Telstra Product Management.

“By leveraging SurfKitchen’s technology, TelstraOne brings icon-driven web access – which is usually associated with smartphones – to 3G feature phones."
