The UKs Sun newspaper has launched a huge promotion, selling mobile content via a barcode reader.
It has published an 8-page on using QR codes titled ‘How To Crack QR Smart Codes’, and is selling products such as Page 3 girl wallpapers and the latest goals from the Premiership. The Sun appears to be working with a barcode product called i-nigma, which is powered by a UK barcode specialist called 3Gvision. i-nigma encodes a URL in the QR code that launches a WAP connection when a photo is taken.
Unlike some similar mechanisms, the i-nigma reader requires a software download to the phone before codes can be read and decoded. It’s free from an SMS shortcode.
