Study: UK print publishers don't get mobile

Only 56 of 719 UK print titles have mobile sites with universal device coverage.

The study by 2ergo, called Mobilising Media, concludes that publishers' business models are not ready to take advantage of mobile.

Regardless of whether their content is free/ad supported or behind a paywall, many publishers are not factoring in mobile as a medium.

Of all sectors, the teenage lifestyle magazines performed worse.

They have suffered the most from cannibalisation by the internet and social networking, but the study found there are no mags delivering content via mobile apps or mobile sites.

And in the consumer magazine space, 2ergo found that just three out of 22 men's mags and nine out of 39 women's mags had a mobile site.

John Stevens, Joint MD of 2ergo, said: “Publishers’ business models are not ready to take advantage of mobile.

"There is no clear cut reason why, other than perhaps publishers are still struggling with their online strategies and therefore their mobile strategy is being left behind too."

There's a slideshare version of the report here.
