Streamezzo and Atos Origin team up for iPhone live TV

Mobile tech firms Streamezzo and Atos Origin have announced their white-label live TV app for iPhone.

It's aimed at mobile operators and broadcasters who want to launch branded live TV applications for Apple's handset.

The companies say one European operator has already used the technology for a live TV app that's being distributed through the App Store.

The operator hasn't been named, although earlier this year, Orange France launched a live TV iPhone app, streaming 60 channels.

Streamezzo and Atos' app includes a channel grid and Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), fast channel switching and a video-on-demand catalogue, and can be branded to customers' requirements.

Intriguingly, it also allows personal video recording features, which could enable viewers to record shows onto their iPhones. It's more likely to be used initially for pausing live TV though.

The app can also be used for non-iPhone platforms, including Android, BlackBerry, Java, Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile.

"Mobile operators and broadcasters are looking for a fast and effective way to deliver interactive mobile TV to the iPhone," says Streamezzo CEO Olivier Avaro.

"Thanks to Streamezzo's technology, they can now offer a complete and competitive mobile TV service to their customers in less than six weeks."
