Startup HootSuite receives $3m

Social media 'dashboard' aims to grow beyond its 2.5 million user base.

HootSuite allows businesses to monitor and market themselves via an array of social networks, including Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter.

Among the 2.5 million users of the service is Fox, The White House and the Los Angeles Times.

HootSuite has so far made three new executive hires and aims to add an additional 80 members to that number by the end of the year.

With the extra staff recruited, the company plans to enhance the sales, marketing and engineering teams to meet the demand of its growing user base.

In less than three months, HootSuite has gained an additional 500,000 newcomers to its  service.

The funding came from Blumberg Capital, Hearst Ventures, Geoff Entress and new contributor, Millennium Technology Ventures.
