Sprint teams with Google for mobile search

US operator takes on Google as its 'preferred mobile search partner'.

The two companies say they'll work together on the overall user experience offered by Sprint handsets and the way content is accessed from them.

In addition to Google's mobile search, selected Sprint handsets will also sport Google Maps (GPS-enabled) and YouTube.

They've worked together before - in November 2006 Sprint and Google made Gmail available from the Sprint portal. And last year, Sprint joined Google as a founding member of the Open Handset Alliance, which is currently developing the Android open mobile OS.

Google has also today joined Sprint as a partner in $14.5 billion US WiMAX network Clearwire, investing $500 million and lending its apps and services to compatible devices.
