Sprint promotes 4G network with live football app

That's American football, obviously.

US operator Sprint has launched a new Sprint Football Live mobile app, which will include live video of college football matches.

The app is being released across a variety of Sprint handsets, but it's being used particularly to promote the operator's 4G network and its HTC Evo 4G smartphone.

Live telecasts will be shown via ESPN's coverage of college football, as well as NBC Sports' streaming of home matches for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish team.

The app also includes a Game Center feature offering live stats and updates from NFL and college games, news and analysis from a variety of news partners, league tables and a fantasy football game.

"College and pro football fans have an insatiable appetite for instant information," says Sprint's VP of corporate marketing Steve Gaffney.

"The Sprint Football Live app is a one-stop location where fans can easily keep up with the latest news, scores and fantasy information from their phone."

A key selling point for the app is, well, it's not being sold. The app and its content are free to anyone with a Sprint Everything Data plan.
