Working with Openwave and Taptu to help developers promote AND monetise their web apps.
US mobile operator Sprint has teamed up with Openwave for the launch of the uncatchily-titled Browser-VAS Ecosystem - a way for developers to get their mobile web apps in front of Sprint's customers.
Openwave is running the initiative for Sprint, which aims to not just promote web apps to mobile users, but help developers make money from them.
The new storefront is being shown off at Sprint's developer conference this week, and is expected to go live in the first half of next year, looking and feeling like a standard app store.
"Developers now can create applications that can be executed in the browser, within the Sprint 3G network or in the cloud, to ultimately provide new and innovative applications and services for Sprint's customers," says Sprint's VP of wireless and wireline services Len Barlik.
"We are excited about our collaboration with Openwave to enable a clear path to rapidly develop and market mobile content that addresses our large footprint of browsers."

Mobile discovery firm Taptu has been working with Sprint and Openwave on integrating its technology into the new storefront, too.
Taptu's search and directory service will be accessible from a toolbar within the new storefront, helping users to find touchscreen-optimised websites.
"Taptu's search and directory service will enable Sprint users to discover touch-friendly websites, videos and music that load quickly and display well on mobile devices," says new CEO Mitch Lazar.
