Not good news for stateside iPhone owners champing at the bit for streaming music service.
The launch of Spotify's iPhone and Android applications this week has stoked up the hype surrounding the streaming music service.
However, US mobile users are having to look on in frustration, as Spotify hasn't launched there yet. It's been expected that it will go live in the US this year, but it seems there's now some doubt around that prospect.
"We're looking to launch in the US either late this year or early 2010, we haven't finalised details yet however," a spokesperson tells music industry blog Hypebot.
Before it can launch in the US, Spotify needs to recruit a sales team, sign new licensing agreements with record labels and publishers, and ensure its back-end can cope with a huge spike in new users. No wonder it's taking time.
Until those tasks are successfully completed, it seems US iPhone and Android users will have to wait to get their mobile Spotify fix too.
