Spotify chief executive Daniel Ek said firm is in talks with mobile operators and handset manufacturers as part of a wider plan to introduce a subscription-based music download service for its desktop users (something the company has since denied).
Obviously any mobile move from Spotify would put it up against Nokia's Comes With Music, iTunes and other similar services.
Spotify is already working on an app for iPhone, though it's unclear whether Apple will a) approve it, or b) permit it to stream music over a 3G connection.
