Users get to see lyrics from a 500,000 song base when identified track plays.
SoundHound LiveLyrics is launching in the US and Canada for both the free and the paid SoundHound Infinity app on Apple iOS devices.
It's a world first, and there should be one million tracks available by the end of 2011.
Aaron Master, director of user experience at SoundHound, said: “We’re thrilled to add the best lyrics experience in the world to the fastest, most versatile music recognition in the world.
"By combining in-house technology with the widest audio-based lyrics coverage in the business, we’re giving our users a compelling new way to enjoy, share and rediscover music. We’re making LiveLyrics free and unlimited, just like our award-winning music recognition.”
SoundHound lets users search for music by holding their phone to a music source, singing into the mic or even just saying the name of the artist they like.

All users get unlimited searches, with SoundHound raising revenue from paid downloads, ads, referrals and promotions.
The app was the best selling paid-for music app on iPhone last year, and the firm says its user base grew 500 per cent in that time.
