Sorry iPhone-owning males: you're not so sexy after all

Phones 4u denies all knowledge of rogue survey release.

iPhone-owning men, we have bad news. It seems your Apple device is not the path to romantic success that it seemed.

Earlier today, ME published a story based on a survey of 1,500 women conducted by Phones 4u, which included claims like 54% of women would be more likely to date a man if he owns an iPhone.

Sadly, these statistics are damned lies!

"The press release was not issued by Phones 4u and is factually incorrect," explains the company's spokesperson.

"Phones 4u have not carried out any research of the sort and we are currently trying to inform publications of this."

The rogue press release was sent out through a reputable newswire service, PRNewswire, complete with kosher contacts for the mobile retailer.

Judging by Phones 4u's comments, someone got access to PRNewswire's system who shouldn't have.

"The release is not legitimate or correct, and to reiterate, was not issued by Phones 4u," says the spokesperson. "We're currently trying to track down the culprit that issued it!"

UPDATE: And they have. TechCrunch, which also carried the original story, has an explanation from Phones 4u about who was responsible:

"We’ve now established that Phones 4u’s Digital Marketing agency, StickyEyes, this morning issued a press release on behalf of Phones 4u without Phones 4u’s knowledge, consent or approval. StickyEyes conducted research via a third party, again without prior consent from Phones 4u and issued a press release detailing its findings without Phones 4u’s knowledge."

So there you have it. iPhones won't make you more likely to get a girlfriend after all. Sorry, men. But at least it will let you spend some quality time with Flight Control.
